Exhibitions on architecture, art and design, lectures by national as well as international architects, discussions, symposia, “on-site” work talks in buildings, excursions, tours, film series focusing on special themes, the release of publications, as well as a continuous basic work at the interface between the professional world, the general public and politics.
Founded in 1993 on the initiative of committed architects, the independent association has set its sights on promoting involvement with the diverse aspects of architecture and encouraging the discussion about a high-quality design of our living space.
Since 2005, the publicly accessible facility has been located in the adapted brewhouse of the former Adambräu brewery, in close proximity to the Innsbruck train station.

In addition to exhibitions, all types of events concerning contemporary architecture, art and design take place at aut. The spectrum of activities, moreover, includes excursions, tours, film series devoted to specific themes and “on-site” talks in buildings, as well as continuous basic work at the interface between the professional world, the general public and politics.
One of aut’s core tasks is to be a competent contact partner for questions relating to the current architectural scene in Tyrol, which has meanwhile also been attentively observed and visited internationally by the media and the public. This work is supported by a comprehensive collection of newspaper and magazine articles, by the publications released by aut, as well as the constantly growing building database in the scope of the Internet platform nextroom.at and the online architecture guide architek[tour] tirol which it is based upon.
The structure of aut is that of a non-profit organization in which architects, officials of Tyrolean State Government, the City of Innsbruck, the University of Innsbruck and the Chamber of Architects and Chartered Engineering Consultants are represented. Arno Ritter has been in charge of the organization and content of aut since 1995 and is currently assisted by a team of four co-workers – Nina Hütter, Linda Kutter, Delia Salzmann and Claudia Wedekind.
The funding of aut and its numerous activities consists of public funds (grants from the Federal Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture, the Tyrolean State Government – Department of Culture, the City of Innsbruck and the Chamber of Architects and Chartered Engineering Consultants for Tyrol and Vorarlberg), moneys from the private sector (sponsoring partners and project sponsors), revenues generated from services, as well as the fees of the association members.
Together with ARCHITEKTUR RAUMBURGENLAND, Napoleonstadel - Kärntens Haus der Architektur, ORTE Architekturnetzwerk Niederösterreich, afo architekturforum oberösterreich, INITIATIVE ARCHITEKTUR Salzburg, HDA Haus der Architektur, vai Vorarlberger Architektur Institut, ÖGFA - Österreichische Gesellschaft für Architektur and ZV Zentralvereinigung der ArchitektInnen Österreichs, aut is the founder of the Austrian Architecture Foundation, which was established in 1996. The common task is to lobby for high-quality contemporary architecture.
