In order to accelerate broad public acceptance, personalities from the City of Innsbruck, the Tyrolean State Government, the Chamber of Architects and Chartered Engineering Consultants, the Central Association of Austrian Architects and the University of Innsbruck were represented on the board.” Helmut Reitter, Chairperson 1993–1997
aut. architektur und tirol (formerly Architekturforum Tirol) was founded in 1993 – after years of discussion rounds within the Tyrolean architectural scene –as the fourth “house of architecture” in Austria. Substantially involved was a group of proponents consisting of the architects Reinhold und Ines Bösch, Gerhard Dollnig, Gerhard Giesinger, Karl Heinz, Reinhardt Honold, Franz Krenn, Rainer Köberl, Peter Lorenz, Thomas Moser, Rainer and Regina Noldin, Horst Parson, Wolfgang Pöschl, Helmut Reitter, Kurt Rumplmayr, Manfred Sandner and Hanno Schlögl.
In March 1994, the Architekturforum Tirol moved into the premises at Erlerstrasse 1/1 in Innsbruck. The program began – under the leadership of Gottfried Pirhofer – with a lecture by Friedrich Achleitner. In 1995, Arno Ritter took over the management of the Architekturforum Tirol and continuously expanded the scope of activities.
Under the new name aut. architektur und tirol, the Architekturforum Tirol moved into their specifically adapted spaces in the brewhouse of the Adambräu brewery in 2005, where several exhibition spaces, which can be utilized simultaneously, an “aut: lounge” communication space, as well as the appropriate infrastructural equipment are available. For aut, the new facilities – which arose due to the commitment of the City of Innsbruck and the Tyrolean State Government – also meant the recognition as an important cultural initiative in Tyrol.
To mark the 20th anniversary of the founding, an extensive special edition of the program magazine aut: info appeared, featuring data, facts, background information and many pictures which provided insights into the history of aut and made the broad field of activity visible.
