Srdjan Jovanovic Weiss is an architect and founder of NAO, spatial practice for architecture, art curating and urbanism; he is one of the founders of the School of Missing Studies, an art and architecture network with research projects in cities marked by abrupt transitions and changes.
Since October 2006 Weiss has collaborated with Herzog & de Meuron Architects on research and design projects.
Weiss is a faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania and is pursuing his PhD on the positive aspects of Balkanization at Goldsmiths College, University of London.
His recent book Almost Architecture, published by Merz&Solitude and kuda.nao, explores the roles of architecture vis-à-vis democratic processes. Weiss has constructed gallery interiors for non-profit art organizations in New York City including Thread Waxing Space, Participant Inc. and the Swiss Institute of Contemporary Art. He has also realized architectural designs for two contemporary dance performances held at the 42nd Street Theatre and St. Mark's Church in New York. Weiss' current project is to preserve one of the last remaining recreation stadiums from the Socialist era in Novi Sad, Serbia by converting it into a Center for Recreation and New Media.
